Jennifer Kanuck

Specifications Writer

Formally educated as an engineer and professionally experienced as a specifier, Jennifer Kanuck has built her career around understanding how complex systems come together and defining what is required to make them perform successfully.

Jennifer applies that perspective to both project specifications and master specifications. Her work requires her to understand the specific needs and design intent of an individual project while also thinking more broadly about how requirements can be developed, organized, and maintained for consistent use across many projects.

That mindset extends beyond the built environment. As the mother of five children, Jennifer has spent years balancing priorities, adapting to changing circumstances, communicating with different personalities, and keeping an eye on both the immediate details and the bigger picture.

Raising my five children is a hard, mostly thankless, unpaid job, but it’s so rewarding watching them grow up, find things they love to do, and seeing them be good humans to others.

In her work as a specifier, Jennifer focuses on asking the right questions, anticipating potential challenges, and communicating requirements clearly. Her experience as an engineer and project manager has also taught her the importance of relationships and earning the trust of the people she works with. For Jennifer, successful projects come from thoughtful coordination, strong relationships, and a clear understanding of what the project ultimately needs to achieve.

I was always proud to see a building I designed be successfully constructed. Also, building professional relationships and earning trust is equally as important, and goes hand in hand with, successfully completing a project.
